Ever since graduating from college, I wished I could get paid to workout. Not only did I love working out, but I knew being financially rewarded would encourage me to workout even when I didn’t want to.
For a while, I thought it wasn’t possible to make money by working out. Then, I came across the following apps and opportunities which proved me wrong!
This post contains affiliate links to my favorite items, which means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through these links, at no extra cost to you. Learn more here.
Apps
There are a lot of apps that pay you to workout, but I use these two personally and know they’re legit:
I love how passive this app is. Basically you earn points for tracking your steps, sleep, and heart rate. All of these are automatically done for you if you have a smart watch! You can also earn points for reading articles (that open directly in the app) and taking part in optional surveys. Lately there has been a simple daily poll that asks how you’re feeling that day, and then you earn 3 points just for answering.
It takes me a few months to acquire the 10,000 points you need in order to get $10 via PayPal, but I’ve redeemed points multiple times now and the process has been fairly quick and easy.
Tip: Keep the app open in the background on your phone so it continuously syncs (if it doesn’t sync, you don’t earn points).
I love that this app encourages you to hit 150 minutes of moderate activity per week (the American Heart Association’s recommendation)! If you reach 150 minutes for a week, then you get to choose a reward from a variety of brands they’re partnered with (it varies every week). Usually the reward is a discount code, $10-$45 off, or maybe a small free item if you pay shipping. The rewards are decent in my opinion, but I like the encouragement to be active throughout the week even more.

Businesses
Beachbody is basically an affiliate program where you earn commission anytime someone uses your links to buy their products. They have online workout videos, live online fitness class, nutritional supplements, workout equipment, and even a stationary bike!
I love that Beachbody focuses on accountability (the secret to consistency, in my opinion) and that they literally have a program for every fitness level, experience, and need!
I dove all in with Beachbody coaching for a year and now earn an average of about $60/month* passively because of the work I put in during that year (mostly due to customers automatically renewing their online workout videos).
You do need to pay about $15/month to be a coach, but the cost has been worth it to me; the $60/month I’m making is after subtracting $15/month, so it still makes sense to keep my account.

Start your own online fitness business
If you want to go all-in with fitness, you can become an online fitness coach! Starting your own online business means you can charge more than in-person training AND set your own hours. Even though I decided fitness coaching wasn’t the right fit for me, I LOVED Buff & Paid’s Accelerator program- it covered literally everything you need to know about starting your own online fitness coaching business and how to make money in fitness online (and no, you don’t need to be a CPT first).

Other
Money pot
This is a great option because it has accountability built-in! Find a group of friends that all want to hit a similar goal, and each contribute a designated amount into a money pot. Then, set a length of time to hit your goals. Finally, split the money between those of you that hit your goals by the end! If you don’t have a group of friends that have health/fitness goals, you can do this with even just one friend. If you hit your goal, the other person sends you the designated dollar amount.
I hope this post helps you find ways to get paid to workout, and helps encourage you to be more active!
Have you tried any other ways to make money in fitness? How did they work for you? Let me know in the comments!
